Holy Roman Empire, Archeduchy of Austria, Ferdinand of Austria-Este, Taler 1803

With the advance of the French troops under Napoleon Bonaparte in December 1800, the last Archbishop of Salzburg fled to Vienna. Some years later, under the pressure of the political situation, he resigned from his office. Salzburg fell to Archduke Ferdinand of Austria (1803-1806). He was the last Salzburg regent to mint his own coins. This taler shows the archduke on the front and his crest on the back.
