Roman Empire, Trajan, Denarius

The obverse of this denarius shows a portrait of Emperor Trajan (96-117). He was one of the most outstanding emperors Rome ever had. During his nineteen year long reign the emprire reached the pinnacle of its political power. In addition Trajans enlightened absolutism granted Rome inner peace and a well organized administration.

The reverse of the denarius shows the goddess Roma. She is holding a spear in her left hand; on her right hand sits Victoria, the winged goddess of victory.
