Swiss Confederation, 500 Francs (2nd Banknote Series, in Circulation 1911-1980)

The illustration on this 500-franc note stems from Eugène Burnand – as does the 1,000-franc note. Though not as well known as his colleague Hodler, Burnand was one of the most successful Swiss painters of his time. The front of the note shows the portrait of a woman from Appenzell; the back delivers an insight into an Appenzell stitchery.
