From 1970, the Federal German pieces of 2 mark featured the image of Konrad Adenauer (*1876, †1967). Adenauer had been the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic from 1949 to 1963. At the same time there were also 2 marks with the image of Theodor Heuss in circulation, who had been the first President of Germany from 1949 to 1959.
