Quality comes at a price. The production of a Swiss banknote, from design to print to distribution and including the costs for paper, costs about 30 rappen. With an average live span of about three years, the production costs per note in circulation thus amount to 10 rappen per year.
In addition there are the Swiss National Bank's processing costs. They amount annually to about 20 rappen per note in circulation.
Hence every circulating Swiss banknote costs about 30 rappen per year.
