Republic of Italy, 2 Euro 2002

The Italian 2-euro-coin depicts Italy's greatest poet, Dante Aligheri (*1265, †1321). The designs of the Italian euro coins are various – they express the whole, rich history of Italy. The choice for the images was made by the Italian public by means of a television show, where several designs preselected by a commission were presented; people voted by calling in, or via internet.
