Swiss Confederation, 100 Francs (5th Banknote Series, in Circulation 1956-1980)

The 100-franc note with Saint Martin is the most impressive of all Swiss banknotes. It shows Saint Martin of Tours as he just descends from his horse to bestow a pauper with half of his coat. The 100-franc note as a symbol of helpfulness is designed by the graphic artist Pierre Gauchat in the years after World War II – in a time thus, in which helpfulness and humanity are as rare in Switzerland as elsewhere.
