Swiss Confederation, 5 Francs 1931

In 1931, Switzerland issued a new 5-franc coin, because a revision of the coinage act degraded the 5-franc coins from regular to minor coins. Their diameters decreased from 37 to 31 millimeters, their weight from 25 to 15 grams and their fineness from 0.900 auf 0.835. The commission to produce new dies was given to Paul Burkhard, the same artist who had made the dies of the former 5-franc coin series.
