Africa, Talhakimt Pendants from Plastic

The origin of talhakimt pendants lays in Africa. Their form is reminiscent of ancient pendants that have been used as jewelry by diverse peoples in and around the Sahara. Supposedly in the 17th century the import of talhakimt pendants from agate to Africa began. Initially they were produced in India, later the pendants came from Germany. The first of the imported pendants were made from agate. In the 19th century came talhakimt pendants from porcelain and glass onto the market, and in the 1940s also pieces from plasic. These pendants were much less expensive than those from agate, and thus found ready consumers.
