Kingdom of France, Louis XVI, Sol 1791

This sol is one of the last coins issued by Louis XVI in his capacity as king of France (1774-1792). In 1791 he was forced to recognize the constitutional monarchy; from that time the images changed, at least on the reverse of the coins. On this coin, the inscription running over both sides still reads LUDOV(icus) XVI D(ei) GRATIA FRANCIAE ET NAVARRA REX: "Louis, with the grace of God king of France and Navarra."
