Papua New Guinea, Boiken People, Wenga Clam Shell Ring with Ten Transaction Notches

This clam shell ring could well be up to 200 years old. It bears ten notches on the inner edge; they show the number of transactions that the former owners executed with this ring. Those might have been pig festivals, ritual barters or weddings. Unlike similar rings without notches, this ring was not used as everyday currency, but as an object of value with a special significance to its owner.
