Republic of Italy, 2 Euro 2002

The Italian 2-euro-coin depicts Italy's greatest poet, Dante Aligheri (*1265, 1321). The designs of the Italian euro coins are various they express the whole, rich history of Italy. The choice for the images was made by the Italian public by means of a television show, where several designs preselected by a commission were presented; people voted by calling in, or via internet.
