Sicily, Acragas, Hemilitra

All coins from antique Acragas bore an eagle and a crab, the city's emblems. They appear, together with six pellets, on this hemilitra as well.

The pellets indicate the value of the coin; six of them stand for a hemilitra, a half litra. As one litra was divided into 12 onkiai, a hemilitra thus equaled 6 onkiai. The obverse of the coin features the river god Acragas, the city's eponym.
