Persian Empire, Achaemenids, Artaxerxes II, 1/4 Siglos

This small coin, a quarter siglos, is generally attributed to Artaxerxes II (404-359 BC). It shows the Persian Great King as an archer, holding a dagger in his right hand. All Achaemenid coins, whether gold or silver, always bore the picture of the archer on their obverse. They are for this reason often difficult to assign to a certain Great King.
