Russian Empire, Anna Ivanovna, Ruble 1731

At the beginning of the 18th century, a basic monetary reform was conducted in Russia. For the first time the old Russian coin of account, the ruble, was issued as coin of circulation. Its appearance, size and weight corresponded to the western European taler coins. The portrait of the tsar or the tsarina embellished the obverse, here of Anna Iwanowna (1730-1740). The reverse bore the Russian national emblem, the double eagle.
