Holy Roman Empire, Duchy of Prussia, Albrecht of Brandenburg, Groschen 1533

In Early Modern Times, mostly small coins like the groat shown here were issued in German Lands. It was rather unusual, however, that these small coins featured portraits, since the preparation of a portrait bust was expensive and laborious. This groat depicts Margrave Albrecht of Brandenburg (1525-1569), on whose order the coin was minted.
