Macedonia, Acanthus, Tritemorion

This silver tritemorion originates from Acanthus, a city on the most eastern peninsula of Chalcidice. A tritemorion was small silver divisional coin for use on the local market. This coin weighs just about 0.37 gram and has the value of three quarters of an obolus. Our tritemorion has a diameter of 4 millimeters – enough for the engraver to depict an amazingly naturalistic bull.
