Republic of San Marino, 10 Centesimi 1935

The national coat of arms of San Marino shows three towers. These are the three watchtowers still standing on top of Titano Mountain. Raised already in the 10th century, they were once part of the medieval fortification wall of the small state. A source from 1370 reports that San Marino "is situated on a very high mountain rock, on whose peak rise three enormous towers." These towers became the landmark of the republic.
